A few months ago, Syaza and I finally queued up to met Syra to get henna done. Masha Allah, the line that was formed...(you should like her FB page!)
While we waited for her to arrive, Syaz and I decided to test/discuss our IOP content for our IB English Literature assessment that was drawing near. I'm still so glad that I was in line with Syaz, we're so productive together ^^
Anyway, when we finally reached the end of the line to get Syaza's henna done- Masha Allah, Syra is beautiful. We had such a beautiful conversation. I would have liked to get my own henna done, but we were rushing for time.
Syaza was nudging me the whole time; because I was inspired by Syra's craft.

That is one of my final visual art pieces for my IB diploma HL Visual Arts.

Elements found on shophouses have also been explored in the series “Evolution of Elements” and “The Beauty in Preservation”. The elements of a shophouse are important aesthetically and functionally. “Evolution of Elements”, depicts a timeline of elements found in Singapore shophouses from past to present. I wanted to display the development of shophouse elements in Singapore. “The Beauty in Preservation” is a work that aims to display aged elements that are still present today. The medium is wood, in order to recreate the original medium used to build shophouses.
Why Syra is an inspiration:
Similar to the process I took, Syra takes great care in expressing her inspirations and emotions into awe-inspiring designs. She gets to do this everyday, Alhamdullilah, just as how I got to carve this piece of wood, with great care, patience and thought.
As the chisel I held in my hand glided through the bark of this wood piece; I'm sure Syra feels the same way when she holds a henna cone, as it leaves the most intricate, beautiful stains on each and every customers' hand.
Dear Syra, I hope you continue doing what you love. Your craft spreads love, health and happiness. It was a pleasure to have met you in person. May Allah SWT guide you always. ❤
Stay inspired,
Nurul xx
